The first time in any country can be a daunting experience. Wondering if you’ve packed the right things or have the correct greetings memorised, etc. You’ve mapped out your route but how can you mentally prepare for your first visit to Thailand?
Always remember the purpose of your trip. People travel for different reasons. You may be looking to expand your horizons and experience a different culture. You may be taking a sabbatical from work. Perhaps you are only on holiday for a few weeks. Regardless of your reason for traveling be sure to always remember why you are doing it and what you want to get out of it. It is easy to get distracted.
Read up on Thai culture. It is a lot more enjoyable and fascinating to visit some of Thailand’s popular attractions if you understand the history behind them. Having a bit of knowledge will also get you excited to visit the places you’ve been researching and ultimately help you feel more connected to them when you are there.
Remind yourself that this could be a once in a lifetime opportunity. Life is short so it is important to make the most of it. And Thailand is a great place to live in the present. Thailand’s beauty should be felt and experienced at least once in your life, why not now?
Know that you are blessed. Be grateful for the opportunity you have been given and find something to be grateful for everyday of your journey.
If you ever have doubts, remind yourself that you can always go home. If you find half way through your trip that you are feeling homesick, there is no shame in going home. Perhaps the timing of the trip was not right for you. You always have the option to cut your trip short if you need to and return another time.
